That’s right! A new year has rolled around and already our minds are on the 2013 NaNo project. Some new things we plan to do with the website are writing prompts strewn like gems during the month of October to help get your creative juices geared up for this year’s NaNo.
Also on the menu is our annual Kick-off party. Details will be forthcoming. I hope you’re excited. I sure am. Let’s get ready to rock this year.
Title: NaNo is near! | Date: 10/30/12
Get ready my lovelies, NaNo 2012 is about to begin in less than a day and a half. Here are some tips for a successful NaNo:
- Be organized. This really does help your writing process flow better. A little chaos is okay, but organization is better.
- Get involved. This year we have several write-in dates and places. Come out, socialize, write and enjoy a few hours safe haven to write in peace.
- Last, but not least, HAVE FUN! If you’re not having fun with your writing and your characters, your story won’t turn out as well.
Looking forward to the writing mayhem *coughs* storm of creativity. Catch you on the flip side!
Title: Introducing your MLs Pt. 2 | Date: 10/19/12

How many NaNos you’ve participated in: 4
How many you’ve won: 1
How many years as an ML: This will be my first year.
NaNo Titles that were published: [2008 NaNo] Werelove: Dusk Conspiracy | [2009 NaNo]Dream Miner | [2010 NaNo]The Tempo (Elemental Symphony) | [2011 NaNo] Annals of the Las Armas: The Rising
Why did you start doing NaNo? I wanted to challenge myself. I tend to be a procrastinator and I wanted to break that habit by working within a deadline.
What is the most fun part of NaNo?
Connecting with other writers, going to the write-ins and the Kick-off party. And of course, writing!
What is the hardest part about NaNo? Keeping the energy up to be able to make it to the end. Also, being motivated to write.
What advice would you give those thinking of participating in NaNo? If you want to challenge yourself, aren’t afraid of deadlines and aren’t afraid to write a really sloppy first draft in 30 days, then this is the place for you.
Title: Introducing your MLs Pt. 1 | Date: 10/12/12
What is a ML? ML is short for “municipal liaison.” An ML and co-ML(s) job is to coordinate events for NaNoWrimo which include, but are not limited to, write-ins, kick-off parties, after NaNo parties, and more.
With that being said, let me introduce you to your first of two Citrus County region MLs.
Name: Flossie Benton Rogers
NaNo name: Dendra
How many NaNos you’ve participated in: 7
How many you’ve won: 4
How many years as an ML: This is my second year
NaNo Title that was published: Wytchfae Runes
Why did you start doing NaNo? To support and encourage local writers, we presented NaNo programs at the library. I wanted to participate so that I could know firsthand what NaNo was all about and explain it to others. I also thought it would be a perfect opportunity to fulfill my dream of writing a novel.
What is the most fun part of NaNo? For me, the first week is the most fun because you are energized, fresh, and full of sparkling ideas. Seeing those ideas develop into a story is a thrill. Drooling over your completed novel just before midnight on November 30 is also fun!
What is the hardest part about NaNo? Getting over the middle of the month hurdle can be difficult. You have to ignore those voices in your head that tell you this is too hard or I’d rather be watching Supernatural. If you persevere and see it through, you will never regret the commitment. At the end you will have a first draft of a novel that you can then edit, revise, nurture, and polish.
What advice would you give those thinking of participating in NaNo? If you love writing or the idea of being a writer, this is your opportunity to tap into NaNo’s worldwide energy and actually write the first draft of your book. Say yes and do it!
Title: What is NaNoWriMo? | Date: 9/28/12
National Novel Writing Month is a fun, seat-of-your-pants approach to novel writing. Participants begin writing November 1. The goal is to write a 175-page (50,000-word) novel by midnight, November 30.
Valuing enthusiasm and perseverance over painstaking craft, NaNoWriMo is a novel-writing program for everyone who has thought fleetingly about writing a novel but has been scared away by the time and effort involved.
Because of the limited writing window, the ONLY thing that matters in NaNoWriMo is output. It’s all about quantity, not quality. The kamikaze approach forces you to lower your expectations, take risks, and write on the fly.
Make no mistake: You will be writing a lot of crap. And that’s a good thing. By forcing yourself to write so intensely, you are giving yourself permission to make mistakes. To forgo the endless tweaking and editing and just create. To build without tearing down.
As you spend November writing, you can draw comfort from the fact that, all around the world, other National Novel Writing Month participants are going through the same joys and sorrows of producing the Great Frantic Novel. Wrimos meet throughout the month to offer encouragement, commiseration, and, when the thing is done, the kind of raucous celebrations that tend to frighten animals and small children.
